The entire open space configuration and landscape design of XO Cape Arnna Hotel has been developed by TTds through a holistic approach where architectural and landscape decisions were conceived simultaneously. Located along the Fethiye coastline, the project blends the natural spirit of Tulum with Mediterranean aesthetics, resulting in a multi-layered outdoor experience aligned with local climate, topography, and user flows.
The design strategy combines traces of the historical Luwian culture with contemporary Italian aesthetics; natural stone pathways, aromatic gardens, sunken seating areas, and coastal structures transform contextual design decisions into a strong sense of spatial belonging. Material choices, accessibility solutions, and planting strategies have turned each outdoor unit into a distinctive micro-landscape with its own character.
In the site plan, the main circulation axis was envisioned as the guiding spine of the project. Inspired by the symbolic path concept of Mediterranean culture, this axis was transformed into a linear olive grove corridor. Accommodation units are organized along this spine, orienting users toward the shoreline, while water features and green areas integrate into a permeable spatial layout. Different levels are connected through landscape elements, ensuring continuity across the network of social spaces.
The pool areas are among the focal points of the project. Jacuzzi seating, a swim-up bar, submerged seating arrangements, a sunbathing pool, and transparent acrylic pool walls transform the experience into not only a recreational activity but also a social and spatial narrative. Stepped entries and ramped access enhance inclusivity across age groups, while overflow edges extend the water surface seamlessly into the horizon, creating a strong infinity effect. The separation of family and adult pools generates distinct atmospheres that enrich the diversity of user experiences.
Planting design was conceived as a key component of the landscape. Numerous species, carefully selected for climatic compatibility and functional performance, were arranged in layered compositions. Each micro-landscape was given a unique plant texture—shade-giving trees in some areas, aromatic shrubs in others, and groundcovers or seasonal color schemes elsewhere. Thus, planting became not only an aesthetic tool but also a functional and living design medium.
Another essential layer of the project is its light structures. Snack bars, pavilions, and various open-air facilities were designed to give each space its own unique identity. Their dynamic and distinctive roof structures adapt to topography and program, enriching the holistic spatial framework of the landscape.
Ultimately, XO Cape Arnna transcends form and function, becoming an expression of an outdoor environment that evolves with its users and remains deeply connected to its context. TTds | Tülay Tosun Design Studio’s holistic design approach has transformed the project into more than a hotel complex—into a contextual living scenario on the Mediterranean coast.
